DAHLING, did you know that root division is one of the easiest form of vegetative propagation?! ROOT DIVISION involves digging up or repotting and carefully separating a portion of the root system of our green gurls, and replanting it. Depending on the plant species and age, one to several divisions may be made from one green gurl 💁🏽‍♀️🪴🌱🌱🌱🌱 Sometimes our green gurls are serving such new growth realness that they produce fabulous offshoots or cute lil pups from their roots that can be divided, thus giving you a whole new green gurl to pot and grow. I have used this method with a variety of snake plants, philodendrons, ferns, peace lilies, and cast-iron plants, but my fav green gurl to propagate through division is Ms. Zamioculcas zamiifolia (aka the ZZ plant.) STEP 1 - I find it easier to do a lil root division when I first welcome a green gurl into my home and she is still in her nursery pot. Nine times outta ten there are multiple green gurls in that nursery pot. Remove the whole plant from her pot. Massage that old soil from the roots and look for the potato-like roots (rhizomes). Gently tug them apart from each other. STEP 2 Immediately place each pup into a separate planter filled with that fresh potting soil. Soak the soil with some delicious H2O so that she can have herself a lil drink, and so that the soil can settle around the roots and rhizome. STEP 3 Place your new group of green gurls in bright ambient light so that they can soak up that sunshine without experiencing sunburn. If it is late spring or early summer, give these kweens some plant fertilizer after they’ve been in their new soil for about a six to ten weeks to get them a boost to encourage new growth.
