Allen Jones is a controversial pop artist best known for his sculptures, paintings and lithographs. He was Awarded the Prix des Jeunes Artistes at the 1963 Paris Biennale. Soon after Jones moved to NY in 1964 and lived at the infamous Chelsea Hotel. He became attracted to the study of fetishisms because he was thrilled by the idea that this was a dangerous topic to explore in the art world. In 1969 he created his most high profile and controversial art forms, the “Hatstand, Table and Chair”. Designed to shock, the series featured "life-size images of women as furniture with fetishist and sado-masochist overtones." There was public outcry from feminist groups and Jones experienced a PR storm which also catapulted him into the spotlight for better or worse. Elton John owned one of these pieces at a time and Gunter Sachs (Brigitte Bardots ex husband) sold his complete set at auction in 2012 for £2.6 million. Allens polarising artwork also attracted of the worlds top museums and collectors and his works remain many highly sort after and high valued still to this day. However Allen’s career as an artist always has been plagued with a dark cloud of controversy. With questions always raised around his true feelings towards whats behind the female forms that he claims to adore. Size: 18”W x 22”H. #AllenJones #VintagePrints
