“It could be worse. You could be paralyzed/in more pain/more spastic/etc.” You see, this is disability comparing, in which you are saying someone with a different disability has a worse quality of life. Disability is dynamic. It’s unfair to say that my situation “could be worse,” meaning I should be grateful for not being more disabled. My condition is chronic and it’s changed over the years, becoming worse and worse. While I may have more mobility but more pain, someone else may have less mobility and less pain. Our lives and struggles are different and cannot be compared. Just some food for thought 💭 . #Accessibility Video Description: Claire, who has a purple buzz cut, looks into the mirror so we only see the reflection. She says her first line “it could be worse,” then the camera pans to her. She wears a spina bifida shirt and recites her lines. . #SpinaBifida #TetheredCord #DisabilityComparing #DisabilityPrideMonth #POTS
