A few evenings ago we joined our good friend @amandagriffin_j to support her cause about exposing online child sexual exploitation, What is alarming is that today the Philippines is a huge content producer for such heinous acts. With the pandemic and lockdowns more and more children were subjected to these atrocities with their parents sometimes being the perpetrators. Roughly 25 years ago Ms Gina Lopez setup bantay bata in hopes to make a dent in this field. Sadly till today with the growth of social media and smart phones the number of cases have been on the rise. In the event we attended we got to meet some real hero’s working with International Justice Mission Philippines and the local police headed by Col Sheila Portento. There are no reliable estimates on how many children are trapped in online sexual exploitation, where predators from around the world pay to watch and direct the sexual abuse of children via livestreams, with the median age of victims being just 11 years old in the Philippines. However, the United Nations estimates that at least 750,000 sexual predators are online at any given time.
