Yay! We actually cut a few dahlia flowers today. They are late of course due to climate conditions. They are all white and different varieties. Normally, when we first start seeing blooms we are one week to ten days away from the fields filling up but this is anything but a normal year. Given the slow pace caused by high heat and drought perhaps we are still weeks away from seeing fields of dahlias, which would mean an incredibly short season. But that is just a part of it. Given the stress the climate is causing the plants, the cut flowers will now undergo extensive testing for strength, durability and vase life. We won't release anything without rigid testing. Naturally, every year brings differences in the look and feel of the flowers and this year is no different. We want to fully understand how these differences, however minute, can affect use and appearances in floral arrangements.
