~Orphic Trails~
Fog ebbed and flowed through the frosted meadow. All was calm as I took in the moment. The distant call of geese could be heard as the backdrop hues of the sky went from navy to purple and eventually to a gradient of orange and yellow.
The frigid air bit at my hands as I took my gloves off to adjust some settings on my camera. A quiet excitement swelled within as I let the majesty of this place overcome my mind.
This moment was more than I bargained for. I drove up here on a whim, having seen the last remnants of fog from a drive the previous day. Yet, that brief glance was enough to get me out of bed early this morning.
I often think about the photos that are most meaningful to me. They are the ones where I sacrifice sleep and comfort for an outcome I only hope exists. Where my curiosity nudges me to drive one more mile, hike to one more meadow, stay out for just one more hour.
As photographers, I think we hope there is a secret trick that will lead to incredible photos every time. The truth of the matter, that trick doesn’t exist...but the closest thing I’ve found to it is to just get out there!-
