Today marks James Baldwin's 101st birthday. I am so proud of this little video I made in April for @archdigest. Making this was a battle only a few witnessed and even fewer know about, but I am very, very grateful to my team, who supported me in doing something that wasn't flashy and popular but just real and necessary. Now more than ever, I am reminded of his words. I run to them in the chaos and mess of our current world and remember to stand and speak loudly for what I believe in. Because unfortunately, today love is still not a popular movement, and we do not act for the freedom of us all. But as I build my little home and fill it with the people and things that ground me, heal me, and make me feel whole, I find the courage and strength needed to imagine and try every day to create the world I want to live in—a world of love and true freedom for all.
