When it be Frihaaaayyyy and ya be prancing, skipping, frolicking into a weekend of rest, relaxation and rejuvenation, gurl ... and yas, hunny, it feels so good, so good, so good 💃🏽💚🌵 A lil bit about the scene this kween is prancing through: The @brooklynbotanic Desert Pavilion displays plants native to arid regions of the world. One side of the pavilion is devoted to those from North and South America, including the southwestern United States, Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile. The other side includes those from Africa, Madagascar, the Canary Islands, and Australia. While this kween loves her tropical green gurls, she’s also obsessed with her cacti and succulent kweens! I’ve grown to have so much respect for these prickly green gurls during my plant journey. They are some of the most resilient green gurls I have in my plant fam! When I first started my plant parent journey I avoided them, but when I actually started to read up on these kweens I realized how intricate, complex, special and diverse these green gurls are! I now have over 60 cacti and succulent varieties in my plant fam ... gurl, that’s nearly 1/3 of my plant fam! 🌵💃🏽 Here are some thangs that I’ve learned that have been helpful for me in caring for these prickly kweens: ⠀ ☀️ While cacti and succulents love that bright light, hunny, exposing them to too much full sun can actually burn some of these green gurls. I’ve always made the assumption that the more full sun the better, but this is not always the case⠀ ⠀ 💧Water these kweens according to the season, gurl! During the warmer months, these green gurls are thriving and drinking up much more water than when they're resting in the colder months. During colder months, I watered these kweens about every three to four weeks. During the warmer months, I water them every 10 to 14 days and I make sure that the water is evenly soaked throughout the soil ⠀ 🌵The soil is a key element, dahling! I make sure to pot all of my cacti and succulents with a soil recipe that includes fir bark, perlite, and compost (for the slow release of nutrients, hunny) as this fab soil concoction drains faster and prevents overwatering 🎥 @meredith.b2
