The best strategy to get the health benefits of coffee is to wait at LEAST an hour after waking to enjoy coffee (Ideally 3!) ☕️
Most people roll out of bed and immediately enjoy a cup of joe. However, drinking coffee right after waking interferes with the body’s natural cortisol production. Many of us know cortisol as a stress hormone but it’s also an “alertness hormone.”
When you wake up your body naturally produces cortisol which makes you feel awake and ready to start the day. BUT if you add in caffeine immediately after rising you are overloading your body’s cortisol levels which can make you feel anxious later in the day. It also teaches your body to produce less cortisol in the morning so overtime you start feeling less alert without your morning cuppa 🙅🏼♀️🙅🏼♀️🙅🏼♀️
Therefore, to optimize your morning routine, wait at LEAST an hour after waking to enjoy coffee, but ideally 3. The body produces less cortisol 3 hours after waking and can benefit from a boost. For example if you wake between 6am-8am then enjoy your morning coffee around 9am-11am 💕☕️
