This evening, we’ll be concluding our outdoor film season with a screening of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars. Legendary documentarian D. A. Pennebaker (eight years after following Dylan around in Don’t Look Back) focused his Bolex on Ziggy Stardust at London’s Hammersmith Odeon during the last night of the Aladdin Sane tour, and Ziggy’s last show ever on July 3, 1973. (At the time the press reported it as Bowie’s last show). A blistering set with the Spiders from Mars lineup (including the mighty Mick Ronson on lead guitar), Bowie/Ziggy runs through all the hits from his last two albums, but also more: “Changes,” “Space Oddity” “All The Young Dudes“ and VU’s “White Light/White Heat” - essential. The backyard opens for food and drinks at 4pm today, film starts at sundown.
