"I come from a very close-knit family, so I was surrounded by strong women. And my father is an activist in his own community," #LupitaNyongo tells BAZAAR. "I witnessed him really choose to fight for a better future over his immediate comfort. That was really inspiring to me and, I think subconsciously, gave me my way of approaching social responsibility." Nyong'o is an enthusiastic activist and advocate for young women, specifically young women of colour. This year, she surprised 40 young women at the NAACP National Convention in partnership with Lancôme, presenting each woman with a $10,000 scholarship, and has inspired countless young people while portraying a strong, vulnerable warrior, Nakia, in #WakandaForever.
