The Painted Finch . These desert finches are generally found in small flocks near waterholes in arid regions of WA, NT, SA and QLD. . We sat and watched these guys come in to drink all day from our Finke River campsite but as much as I tried to get a good shot of a breeding plumage male, they just kept escaping me. It's all part of being a wildlife photographer right!
