“To be visibly queer is to choose your happiness over your safety.” Played last nights show thinking about all the people inside ClubQ in Colorado Springs Saturday night. As the clock hit midnight, into Trans Day of Remembrance, someone who should not have had access to a gun open fired on the dance floor. Queer spaces are a safe haven and I wish they could remain that way, a place to celebrate truth and love. When something happens to my community, I feel it. Whenever life is interrupted like this, I think we all feel it. Today, I’m holding on to how lucky I am to be here and how hard I will continue to fight to keep the people I love from harm. How I will continue to vote and stay conscious in a system that prefers us to be asleep at the wheel.
