In 2020, VIVE Arts, Victoria and Albert Museum (@vamuseum) worked together to create the magical VR experience ‘Curious Alice VR’. We would like to take you through the journey of creating the VR artworks and how the 2D illustration enter the "Metaverse" started.🦩 It all started with the beautiful Alice in Wonderland illustration from Icelandic artist, Kristjana S. Williams(@kristjanaswilliams). The inspiration of Kristjana's illustrations comes from V&A's Paper peepshows collection of the museum. Peep shows, also known as tunnel books, are widely considered to be the ancestors of animation and film. It’s like Victorian age's VR - A way for audiences in the 19th century to peer into times and places beyond their own experience. Working with immersive game designers Preloaded Studio (@preloaded_studio) in London, we created ‘Curious Alice VR’ and brought Kristjana's art to life. This "world-building" process is like creating a Metaverse, and Kristjana has many other artworks in which she created using layers of illustrations to create "worlds" between 2D and 3D dimensions. Read more about the project on our website - link in bio.
