With one week left of our first season featuring an archival exhibition on the Gay Liberation Front (GLF) and leading up to their book reading event on 07.09.2022, check out our interview with artist and activist Stuart Feather part our Touch Me series with @beggxco Stuart Feather is an activist who was an original member of GLF and took part in the first public demonstration of homosexuals in the UK in 1970. Stuart is a painter and the author of political biography, Blowing the Lid: Gay Liberation, Sexual Politics and Radical Queens, published in 2016. Stuart was also a member of the Bloolips queer theatre troupe between 1977-1993, which won a New York OBIE awards in 1981. “One of the greatest legacies we have is that thousands of lesbians and gays came through the doors of the GLF. They might have been involved for a while and later not, but then when the AIDS pandemic hit, there were already groups of friends in place, well connected, especially in the health services and activists who had the balls to stand out to the medical professionals and doctors and ask: Why are you doing this? What’s really happening? Who’s doing the research? That was brilliant.” ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• As part of our Touch Me activation in partnership with @Beggxco We commissioned photographer @jeffhahn to capture a series of portraits of queer artists and activists wearing the ‘Touch Me’ scarf designed by @jakobrowlinson Alongside the images, taken outside the new QUEERCIRCLE space in the Greenwich Design District, London, we sat down with each of the portrait sitters to find out about their individual experiences, their creative processes and activism, and what Pride means to them. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• All proceeds from this partnership will provided vital support for our ongoing programmes at QUEERCIRCLE.
