On the journey to adulthood and while being an adult we quickly realize that mental toughness is necessary in order for us to get through certain life events. We often will attach mental toughness to sports or even academics because it’s usually there that we need to be determined and persistent in order to succeed.

Determination and Persistence are attributes we need to have for our lifetime because there will always be something that we must have the mental toughness to get through. But mental toughness is also flexibility and adaptability; it is knowing what’s needed in any given moment to persevere.

When we have to adjust or adapt to a changing situation this too is mental toughness. When a situation is changing in a way that we don’t particularly care for, our mental toughness will allow us to suffer less. We can focus our energy on finding new and different ways to handle the moment.

In life, we will have setbacks and we will have challenges but we never really know if that moment is a good thing or a bad thing. Life happens, some things work out and some things don’t but it all becomes a part of our experience, preparing us for another experience. Understanding this can help us to be mentally tough, it allows us to be determined, persistent, flexible and adaptable.
