Repost from @tracieleost • December 6th is the National Day of Rememberance and Action on Violence Against Women. The Indigenous community in Treaty One Territory is currently experiencing a state of emergency as a serial killer that does not have the privilege of being named murdered four Indigenous women. Morgan Harris (39), Marcedes Myran (26), Rebbeca Contois (24), and a fourth victim that has yet to be identified that our Elders have asked we call Buffalo Woman. Though the Winnipeg Police believe the remains of three victims are in the Prairire Green Landfill, Winnipeg Police Chief Danny Smyth stated they will not be conducting a search for their remains. This reinforces the systemically racist belief that Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit people are disposable. Indigenous Women, Girls and Two Spirit people at the very least deserve to feel safe and protected. We need our allies to stand up and show up alongside us to challenge the state, authorities and politicians and demand justice and liberation from the ongoing violence and genocide Indigenous people are experiencing. Indigenous Women, Girls and Two Spirit people matter.
