As part of Art Toronto 2022, we are thrilled to present “Disgraceful Me” a solo project featuring five new large-scale ceramic sculptures by Sami Tsang (@samiclayee)! 💙✨ Sami Tsang (b. 1997 Windsor, ON, Canada) uses clay, rice paper, resin, and drawing to materialize internal questions and traumas. Weaving together domestic and psychological narratives related to the conservatism of her youth, Tsang references Chinese proverbs and uses humour, distortion, and whimsy to counter her childhood fears of speaking which were imposed on her by her context. Tsang studied traditional Chinese painting in Hong Kong for seven years, later moving to Canada to study ceramics at Sheridan College where she was introduced to the broader clay community. She was the 2019 recipient of the Gardiner Museum Prize. Art Toronto Metro Toronto Convention Centre October 27 - 30, 2022 For more information about Sami’s work, please send us a message. 💙💛💙 Pictured: My Secret Attempt, 2022 Stoneware, engobe, glaze, chain, resin, clay epoxy 39 x 34 x 18 in (99.1 x 86.4 x 45.7 cm) Staying Put Is Moving Forward, 2022 Stoneware, engobe, glaze 36 x 26 x 17 in (91.4 x 66 x 43.2 cm) Me But Not Anymore, 2022 Stoneware, engobe, glaze 40 x 28 x 22 in (101.6 x 71.1 x 55.9 cm) Say Your Sorrys, 2022 Stoneware, engobe, glaze, rice paper, resin, chain, clay epoxy 38 x 26 x 19 in (96.5 x 66 x 48.3 cm) Hot Tea Melts Me Down, 2022 Stoneware, engobe, glaze 37 x 28 x 18 in (94 x 71.1 x 45.7 cm) #COOPERCOLE #SamiTsang #ceramicsculpture #emergingartists
