Beautiful moments of last month Juneteenth with amazing folks ✨ When I think of Juneteenth, I don’t just think of freedom; I think of connections. Connections between Africa and America; between Senegal and the US; between Dakar, Harlem and New Orleans. I think of connections to the farms where so many of us grew the food that built and nourished this country. I think of all those black cooks and chefs who, using the skills and tastes of the motherland. We defined how American cuisine should be cooked and how it should taste. When I thought about how I wanted to celebrate Juneteenth, I knew I wanted to bring us all together–chefs, farmers, artists, citizens. I knew I wanted to share this moment and these centuries of freedom beyond my immediate circle and bring all of you here to this land, the kind of place where so many of our ancestors toiled. I knew I wanted to bring west African and Haitian and Creole cuisine together on one plate and in one place.
