I’m a 4th-grade teacher. I love my job, and most importantly I love my kids more than words can explain. Any of my kids that I’ve had before can and has confirmed this. I can say that I don't go to work in fear of a potential shooter. I can, however, say that I do have a plan for this event ever occurs. I know what I would grab with me, which doors my keys open, where the light switches in each room are, and where the monitor/screen is hidden for all the cameras that we have on campus. Now stop and think for a second, how many of you reading this and thought it's odd that I think of this as not normal. Because I bet most of you while reading this, didn't think how fucking weird it is that I have a fucking plan in my head in case this happens in my school! That's not ok! That is what my friend's note I posted is about, she knows, Cassi knows, my close friends know if that happened in my school, you prob wouldn't see me again, because I could not let anything happen to the kids that I love, and putting my own life on the line for them doesn't even deserve a second thought from me, I would do out of reflex... But it shouldn't be that way, I should not even consider thoughts like this, that I grew up in a way more dangerous country than this and I had NEVER in my life growing up heard, or had any fear about anyone killing us at school, the school was safe, school is sacred. Why here? First of all, if you’re gonna try to say something about me politicizing this, go fuck yourself, because why have politics and policies if we cant use them to address crises like the one we currently have? Is that not the purpose of politics to make changes to make a country better? Is there a different reason for policy someone else didn't teach me? Regulation WORKS, that is the bottom line. It worked in Scotland when this happened 26 years ago, they haven’t had a shooting since. It worked in New Zealand, it worked in Australia when 650 thousand guys were confiscated and murders plummeted! Anyone that says regulation doesn't work is saying so for selfish reasons.
