I made a reel portfolio of my conducting experiences so far. Though still so immature, I believe from now on I will improve a lot from here, so this video is a starting point and witness of my following growth. In the recent 2 years, I had some opportunities to get to know conducting. In the end I realized that besides personal understanding to music and skills, conducting is more about "people". It is about communicate. Being able to express your ideas in music and making sure members know what you are saying, quote from our conducting teacher Allen Tinkham that “conducting is helping players do their best”, therefore creating an environment that makes member feel safe and trusted is very important. No matter adults or children, every member has their family and lives, as a conductor and leader, it is to being understandable while setting the rules. It is easy to be convincable for once or twice, but through out the years, the thing harder than the music is to group everyone together, make them trust and follow your lead. Finding the dynamics between "self/conductor", "music interpretation" and "members" is the hardest but also joyful. Although I am mainly learning to be a composer, the experience of conducting really helps me to see myself and crafts my musicianship. I appreciate all of the opportunities and the people I have met through the experiences, no matter supports or conflicts. So many lessons, growth and joy I have gained from conducting. I will keep on going. 剪辑了一个截止目前的指挥作品集,虽然技能还有很多不成熟的地方,但之后会在学习下越来越好,以此节点鞭策自己继续前进。 近两年间在很多机缘巧合下开始接触指挥,最后发现在对音乐有自己的理解之外,指挥做的其实是沟通,是和“人“相关的工作。精准地沟通表达自己对音乐的想法和演绎方式,并且确保成员明白自己在说什么,引用最近指挥老师说的,“Conducting is helping players do their best”,指挥的作用是要帮助乐手发挥到他们的最好水平,那么如何给成员创造信任安心的环境其实非常重要。 每个成员都有自己的家庭和各自的性格,不论是大人还是小朋友,作为指挥,更多的是需要在保持理解的同时也设立规矩。让人信服这件事做到一两次容易,而经年累月,在“自己“,“音乐表达“和“团员“之间找到并不一意孤行的平衡其实才是最难的。虽然现在主要在作曲人的路上进修,但指挥对我的整体音乐能力和成为一个“人“有着不可忽视的影响。 感谢这条路上遇见的人们给予我的一切,不论是鼓励包容或者发生摩擦,都是“如何成为一名合格的指挥“和我看见自己重要的一步。我会继续努力的。 2024.09.29
