The Institute has been named the Recipient of the Prestigious Emmy’s Governors Award for 2022 ! The Non-Profit is being recognized for its efforts to promote gender balance and foster inclusion throughout the Entertainment Industry. Founding the Institute in 2004, Ms. Davis recalls a Specific Real Life Moment that Spurred it ALL. Her daughter was just a Toddler and Geena decided she was old enough to start watching pre-school shows. She was absolutely stunned and horrified about the lack of female characters and representation on these Shows. This struck her very deeply realizing that from minute one of absorbing popular culture, that children are taught that women and girls are not as important to our society as men and boys. And it seemed to her, rather obviously, that this was a horrible message to be sending.
