This photograph had been taken in the winter of twenty nineteen prior to the case that made us delve into a state of intra-communication until the world pseudo stabilized. The result was larger than the sum of parts. John Berger quintessentially stated that “;we are always looking at the relation between things and ourselves.” to add Bresson said that one eye is looking outward and the other is looking inward. During this decisive moment I understood these latter concepts about myself and why I choose to work in the field in photography. This photograph has four layers, I’ll articulate them as thoroughly as I can from background to foreground. I. The Russian-Orthodox church represents a longing for a clench that is governed by faith and not necessarily an organized religion or spiritual life, like in Buddhism, but something beyond articulation. Something that you know that’s out there, that scientists and artists of all mediums try to vessel, yet still try to encapsulate in their work. II. The asbestos roof still standing, years after the discovery of the cancerous trait, still within the infrastructure can be equated to my DIY my nature and taking the left hand path in every motion I make, naturally. III. A girl, in this case, @armyanskinos gazing out into the open, contemplating this fragile thing we call life, its ups, its down but still holding a stoic gaze towards knowing there’s time. IV. The fourth wall of this photo, is, well, you.
