Big events with chronic illness typically come with a side of major anxiety - the what ifs can feel paralyzing 🙃⁣ ⁣ This past weekend I went to my girlfriend’s best friend’s wedding and it was SO stunning, moving and incredibly fun (my girl sure knows how to keep everyone entertained on the dance floor 😂) ⁣ ⁣ But it was also TOUGH. It was tough because I had a nonstop migraine for 3 days in a row leading up to it, my nausea was unrelenting and my body was simply going through it. ⁣ ⁣ Thankfully my partner is so beyond supportive and I had a lot of tools in my toolbox to use, so I thought I’d share a few tips for navigating big events with chronic illness ⬇️⁣ ⁣ 💃🏼 pack that purse full o’ pills!! having every possible medication and supplement I could need (nausea pills, peppermint pills, ginger pills, digestive enzymes, etc etc etc!!!). not only does it help when/if I need those pills but also helps me mentally knowing I’m prepared for anything!!⁣ 💃🏼 prepare your body and brain beforehand by having calm you time (if possible). I made sure to take extra time to read, journal and just CHILL before the wedding. this helps me not feel as physically or mentally overwhelmed which helps my symptoms.⁣ 💃🏼 eat safe food beforehand! Thankfully I knew the bride had made sure there was food there I could eat (SO THANKFUL 💕). But that’s not always the case! Making sure you eat foods you know make you feel your best saves you from eating trigger foods (or bringing your own food / snacks with you!)⁣ 💃🏼 don’t be afraid to take as many breaks as you want and need!! I had to sit down quite a bit and sip tea and just rest my body. it’s easy to feel embarrassed but there is NO need - what’s embarrassing about honoring your body? 😊⁣ 💃🏼 don’t be afraid to say no. there was a wedding after party that I quite literally just knew I couldn’t make it to. it’s so easy to push ourselves for the sake of others, but our health always comes first. ⁣ 💃🏼 communicate with the people you’re going with. knowing your circle knows what’s going on before you HAVE to explain it (aka you start feeling sick) takes so much anxiety away. ⁣ ⁣ what else helps you during big events?! ⬇️🥰Xx
