Coming together for the community It has been 50 years since Her Majesty the Queen Mother, initiated SUPPORT Foundation for the Promotion of Arts and Crafts in Thailand. Like many (of my peers) in the industry, the project inspired an immediate appreciation of Thai handicraft, its rich heritage, and the majestic beauty that is Thai textile. I am incredibly blessed that this new found love was nurtured even further by my late mother, who supported my interest in fashion and allowed a keen eye for beauty to develop into a 30-year career in fashion. This issue holds a special place in my heart. For starters, it brings the often untold story of craftsmen economically sustaining communities through skills and generational wisdom before the word ‘Sustainable’ is even de rigueur. Just as the team and I found inspiration in the beauty of their work and the stories told, I hope the following pages dedicated to their cause encourage you to look at a handmade pattern with marvel, one that perhaps allow a fresh new eye for all things Thai. I would like to end this note by expressing my gratitude to Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya who graciously invited me to be part of a small group tasked to travel with her across various provinces in Thailand to meet textile makers. The trip allowed insights and knowledge to be shared and there is satisfaction knowing I too got to play a part in the development of new works and ideas for the community to pursue. It is not often that the work we do brings us full circle in life. My love for Thai handicraft and the community remains just as important as when I first read of the mission set by Her Majesty the Queen Mother to support our heritage and the arts; and in doing so, I know my mother would have been proud. #VogueThailandAugust2022 .
