For many, college remains a pathway to the American Dream. But with high tuition & an ongoing student debt crisis, Congress needs to act! @potus' action is a first step & I've filed the Lowering Obstacles to Achievement Now (LOAN) Act to help students today & into the future. The bottom line is the #LOANAct works to lower the cost of college. This bill builds on the President’s leadership by: 🎓 Doubling and expanding the Pell grant 👨‍🏫 Improving the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program 💵 And making loans more affordable and accessible for everyone Because of the rising costs of college, the #PellGrant covers less than a third of the average cost of tuition at a four-year university. The #LOANAct addresses this shortcoming and makes sure more Americans and #DREAMers get this needed assistance. For those serving our communities through public service like teachers, government workers, and non-profit staff, this bill provides much-needed relief. We need to appropriately reward those who help keep our community safe, educated, and connected! And to make sure future borrowers are not saddled with the same debt burden of the last few decades that caused the student debt crisis today, this legislation caps interest rates, eliminates fees, and makes loans more accessible for everyone.
