With the summer solstice behind us, the vines have entered an exciting new phase of growth. Here’s everything that’s happening in the vineyard and what’s up next. ​ · Vineyard crews have worked hard over the past few weeks to manage the vine’s canopies and make sure the new berries have optimal light, shade and air flow. Now it’s time for the vines to get to work ripening the berries. ​ · Green harvesting or crop thinning will soon take place. This is when unripe grape clusters are intentionally removed so that the vine can focus on getting nutrients to the healthiest, best positioned clusters. This practice plays a large part in creating the concentrated flavors and tannins Napa is famous for. ​ ​ Up Next: Veraison​ As the summer drifts on, the grape clusters will begin to change color dependent on their varietal.
