Not long ago there lived a great man
There wasn’t a task he couldn’t do with the strength of his hand
“A carpenter” some ask?
He could build anything from the scraps of the land
Some called him a great teacher
Patient and kind, he listened when eager
Thorough and thoughtful he could teach any skill
“Try young man, and accomplish you will”
Now some say he was a historian, with knowledge abound
He could teach you anything from the world all around
“He was a scientist!” some raved
They called him “The Professor” on bygone radio waves
“No no, he was in the military” some insisted
In Alaska he served when he enlisted
A strong man with faith dedication
He stood firm, handsome, clean shaven
No coffee too hot, no task too tall
In a group of 7 he lead them all
He was always happy to speak
He’d pick anyone up when they fell weak
But who was this man of men?
A carpenter, a teacher, a scientist, a solider?
All of the above and more for a man we thought would never grow older
A brother, a son, an uncle, a friend
He offered his hand, happy to lend
A pop, a neighbor, a partner, a hoot
He could make you laugh and tell you your roots
What can you say for a man so great?
There aren’t enough words and its getting late
So a simple thank you will have to suffice
In a time like this we could use your advice
Not long ago there lived a great man
His name was Tony, and because of him I am who I am
