#USvsHate (“us versus hate”) is about embracing inclusion and justice for all in our diverse schools & society and invites students to create public anti-hate messages in any media for their school communities. @usvshate’s national challenges then amplify student voices for a national audience.
In 2022-2023, students can submit #USvsHate messages by December 16 and April 7. See below (and link in our profile) for more details.
Using #USvsHate lessons or their own resources, educators (or caregivers!) can invite students to create public anti-hate messages in any media. Youth can also submit directly to #USvsHate.
For this year’s regular #USvsHate challenges, applicant messages should do one or more of the following:
* communicate that people across lines of difference contribute to our communities, regions, and nation, are equally valuable, and deserve access to opportunity and well-being;
* explicitly address, explore, and refuse racism, xenophobia, homophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, sexism, or other forms of hate, bias and injustice in schools and society, insisting instead on a society that works for everyone;
* celebrate our actual diversity and similarity, busting myths (challenging stereotypes) about any “type of” person too often misrepresented;
* ask people to treat each other kindly, fairly and respectfully, so schools stay safe for learning and society includes us all.
This year, students can also submit #USvsHate messages that answer a #LetUsLearn Special Call to Action. The Special Call to Action invites youth to weigh in on the inclusive teaching they want in schools and their right to learn about diversity in school. This year’s #USvsHate launch video, created by a 16 year old, amplifies youth voices across the country and invites youth into this year’s messaging!
