If you’ve ever entered any form of creative work into the earth you will know it arrives with a decent slice of emotional, mental and physical highs and lows. The pure energy high (pictured) is equally matched with a flat uninspired low (not pictured). There isn’t much language for this kind of depletion. It feels like laziness or even depression, but in reality it is an empty inner cup that just needs refilling. A sign you have generously given from deep part of your being and you need to replenish your resources. For me, finding creative inspiration is as practical as drinking water, eating greens, turning off noise, moving my body. Basic being healthy stuff. Trying to see ‘brain fog’ as a my healthy mind moving into rest to resetting itself, not a laziness I need to suppress so I can remain focused. And it amazes me how naturally my creativity refreshes itself when I give in to the rhythms of rest. Ps — our studio neighbour David thinks all I do is dance so this should fuel that rumour.
