Every day my feed is filled with sensationalist views about war, pollution and oppression that lead me feeling more and more powerless. I also believe it enhance divisions and the dehumanization between our communities. I believe in the power of community, empathy and solidarity to connect and inform. We have all been horrified by what is happening in Ukraine. But how can we dismiss the difference in how the media is covering Ukraine from how it covers Palestine? While Ukrainians are (rightly) celebrated and supported for resisting occupation; Palestinians are either ignored or punished for the exact same thing. Calls to sanction and boycott Russia have been welcomed and approved, while Israel's violation of international law, illegal occupation and war crimes in Gaza go unpunished. I choose not to add more negativity and anger to the relentless noise of social media. Instead, I want to use this space to share acts of kindness, compassion, resistance and to imagine what kind of better world we want to see emerge.
