To honour the passing of the legendary guitarist Jeff Beck, here’s the clip from Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1966 mod masterpiece ‘Blow Up’ where The Yardbirds play ‘Stroll On’ in a London club and Beck proceeds to trash his guitar. Music heads can maybe validate this story for me, but I read somewhere that Antonioni had seen The Who playing live in London and trashing their instruments, wanted them to be in the film, but when he couldn’t get them, he asked The Yardbirds to appear and do the same instrument bashing. Beck was apparently reluctant to smash up a perfectly good guitar. Fair enough. RIP Jeff x
