STORY TIME:
This shoot was my first time in Europe, more specifically, Portugal.
I've been getting really intentional about my shooting so that real moments feel more authentic, which is why i love using film.
I photographed 7 rolls of film and 126 digital images for 4 different shoots. I'm dedicated to pushing myself and making myself better.
I arrive at the airport and all you film photographers know that when you go through security, you usually have them hand check film rolls, because if you push them through the machines, they may be compromised.
Welp, in Portugal, they do not do that and their scanners specifically have a images with a film roll and an X on it, meaning do not put film through there. I don't know if it was the language barrier or the man just trying to rush me by but he told me I needed to put it through and to hurry it up.
I was so confused because I was asking for a hand check. So I put it through the machine.
I come out from the other side and i grab my stuff... I ask the next attendant if my film will be okay. He looks friendlier and starts looking at it and looks straight at me saying, I know it is 100%(me thinking he was gonna say it was fine).....ruined. I broke down crying. Thanks to
@shalaebyrdphotography and @danaarnoldphotography for being such a comfort to me.
But then he told me to not throw it away and that you never know. After being on such a creative high for the past week, I just wanted to get home.
I was tempted to feel defeated.
Long story short.... I came home and developed the film and they are gorgeous. I will always remember this. But this is why it's so important when traveling to know all the situations around you. Portugal has older scanners so they don't affect certain films.
