One of our spring favorites is in Francis Marion National Forest, kayaking down water trails and listening for birds that have migrated back up from South America to nest.
Interesting to note: these birds have to have this habitat of old growth, native trees in the blackwater— you can’t just ask them to go somewhere else if we don’t protect it. It gives them the right nesting sites and an abundance of food when they need it the most— nesting and raising hatchlings.
