Have you ever had an idea, something you felt really passionate about, only to share it with someone and they act skeptical? It doesn’t mean they don’t love you, really it’s the opposite, they’re afraid for you to fail. As an entrepreneur, that can take the wind out of your sails really quickly. I didn’t tell friends and family my idea for Spanx for an entire year. I waited until I had invested enough of my time and energy so no matter what I heard, I knew I would not quit. And for me, that was one year. And guess what?? I heard, “sweetie if it’s such a good idea why hasn’t someone else done it? And .. “even if it is a good idea, you’re going to spend all your savings and the big guys will just knock you off.” And guess what? If I had heard those concerns (out of love) the moment I had the idea, I promise you Spanx would not exist and I would still be selling fax machines. Well, actually no I wouldn’t because those don’t exist anymore either!
