As a parent you set goals, it’s important that you meet those goals. When my girls first got their bikes they were all about riding them, once the training wheels came off, not so much. They picked up other hobbies and kind of forgot about their bikes. When school let out for the summer I made a goal that I would teach my kids how to ride a bike before summer was over. Although it’s them who has to learn how to ride, it’s my job to teach them. It’s my job to apply pressure, make the effort and show the importance of riding a bike. Maybe it’s the fact that my bike, was always my freedom as a kid. It’s what aloud me to live. To see things, to explore, to get to safety when needed and to leave where ever I wasn’t comfortable. Riding a bike has always been a life lesson to me. It teaches you so much about life. I made sure to teach this to my kids at the same time. I don’t know how much of it all sunk in but in time it will. They’ll always look back and remember. I explained to them, that they are the ones that have to put forth the effort. They are the ones that have to put their fear aside and trust in themselves. That we would be here to help them get going and to look out for them, but at some point it’s just going to be you out there and you have to remember what we taught you and believe in yourself. I also explained that the amount of effort they put into anything will determine how good they are at this and how fast they will learn. Well, after two park visits we now have ourselves some riders. I’m a very proud Dad. Sorry to get so deep on you all. It’s been a rough week in parenting and this just showed me how as long as you keep pedaling you won’t fall.
