Could not let this day go by without celebrating my parents!! On this day 50 years ago these crazy kids got married and they’re still at it!! I don’t believe I need to break down how remarkable this is...but just in case....they got married only a few years after the Loving vs.State of Virginia ruling when interracial marriage was still being criminally prosecuted in parts of our country. (What an embarrassing shame!) 50 years, two children, three grandchildren and an entire church of loving congregants later they clearly meant what they said at that altar - they have endured as husband and wife, parents and Pastors. They’ve never portrayed a “perfect” vision of marriage to me but they have always proven that their commitment was unshakeable and I’m grateful for that kind of stoicism in a time when people can’t even be counted on to keep a coffee date. (Hello to most of the guys we’ve all had the misfortune of dating in LA! 🙄) I see you Mom and Dad and I thank you for proving that some bonds will indeed last for a lifetime!
