I am not surprised but still outraged. I’ll let Ayman’s post speak for me. Posted @withregram • @aymanm It’s been more than 100 days since Shireen Abu Akleh was killed. And now the Israeli military is finally acknowledging what the whole world has known. It was an Israeli bullet that killed Shireen. Even when the evidence was clear, the Israeli government tried to blame Palestinians. Even when independent organizations concluded it was the Israeli military, the Israelis obfuscated the truth and said it was inconclusive who killed her. The bullet was too damaged. The eyewitnesses weren’t credible. The videos were edited. There was excuse after excuse after excuse. Now they admit they likely killed her. And now they are saying no one will be held accountable. Not the soldier. Not the officer. No one in the chain of command. This is what it means to live under a dehumanizing and brutal military occupation. Even when you admit wrong doing, you act with impunity. And the people who you kill are simply forced to accept this while the world watches in silence. Palestinians gunned down. And there are no consequences.
