Things could have gone so so bad right here, and I feel so lucky to have walked away from that. I made so many mistakes that day and even though I was aware of it, for some reason I didn’t back off or adapt. Leading up to this clip, I had jumped the drop 4 or 5 times already. I was consistent but I was not happy with my style. We started late morning and I was feeling off. I wasn’t very excited to be riding, I was tired and not warmed up and conditions were wet. My first try went well but I knew I could do a cool style off this drop, maybe do a no hander. So I kept on trying. I'm such a perfectionist and I could not accept that on this day I was not going to be able to do exactly what I had pictured. The off camber entrance was super slippery which was my main concern, but it didn’t stop me. So I went for another try. I kept scaring myself on that run-in. It has such high consequences, so you have to be dialled. I should have just given up, but I could not stand the thought that I could have done better, so I went again, with less confidence. I was tight in the entrance, I didn’t carry enough speed but I had passed the point of no return, so I did one strong pedal crank, slipped, unclipped, dabbed... and the rest was luck and me really doing everything I could not to empale myself on the wood structure. This incident was such an important reminder. It was really scary and I needed it. When I am having an off day and the conditions are not right, it's ok step away.
