The Quest is an innovative competition show that takes eight real life teen contestants and places them in a completely real live action fantasy world. Think: the amazing race x lord of the rings. Filming The Quest was like an elaborate, highly strategic surprise party - we waited for the contestants to arrive, and its go time. No stopping, no retakes, no breaking character; one single take. Remember your lines and improv based on how everyone reacts to you. I’ve never done it, but it was the closest feeling to doing theatre that I can imagine. The entire crew had to be hidden and out of sight when the contestants showed up. Just myself, the contestants, and eight mobile camerapeople. Having played basketball in front of thousands of people before, I recall this being one of the most terrifying and exciting moments of my life as I was hiding behind a tree with one of the producers, as we were seconds away from my reveal as the contestants arrived. Becoming the dragior, an eons-old demonic forest entity, was a fun process in creating his persona: what he wants and what drives him, as well as the physical creation of the character himself. Sculpted by @andy_bergholtz , @norman_cabrera_monsters , and @millionaireclayboy , these three masterminds created a terrifying creature who could only be described as nightmare fuel.
