I am thrilled to introduce the campaign and associating short film for Thebe Magugu x AZ Factory. This is one of my proudest collaborative efforts, only because of the sheer amount of minds I deeply admire that have come on board and contributed. I have long admired Nadine Ijewere’s photography, and her ability to capture something as abstract as human sensuality, and so beautifully revealing one’s culture with such pride and regality. There is only strength in her work - she pulls out the fire in all her subjects. Ibby Njoya , who created the set for the campaign, is a complete genius at funnelling his imagination into tangible objects and paintings we have the privilege of experiencing in real life - the conversion from thought to execution has not one sliver of compromise, throwing us into his dream-scape mind. Chloe Andrea Welgemoed, my longest creative collaborator and house-stylist for Thebe Magugu completes all my thoughts and even challenges them with her hybridised and multi-pronged approach to styling and creative direction. Anne Gryczka , who videographed on film, perfectly captures this special intersection. This, together with the most talented and dedicated team at AZ Factory, have come together to form a campaign that embodies and answers our original collection question: “what if Africa was the birthplace of fashion?”. This is our proposition. Inspired by formal African parliamentary wear, these sets are the ultimate in elevated everyday separates, intended for day and night.
