Yesterdays long run was different for @thenonameprogram. We gave it that @definenewyorkrunclub twist (defining and running runners to secret locations in the big apple). I run. You run. We run together. The stops we took and spoke about are below, but Michael Kenneth Williams (@BkBmg) mural sits close to my heart as those that know, know. Huge thank you to Jackie, Ashley, Manny and the define new york run club runners and speakers who spoke at the different locations. Also, listen to slide 6 delivered by Craig. Although I put this stops together, I learned something new as well. 1) IFC Center (outside peephole shutters to watch movie inside theater). 2) Minetta Street (one of the first African American neighborhoods to exist in New York City) aka “Little Africa”. 3) Emily Warren Roebling Plaza (She was in charge of getting the Brooklyn Bridge completed and also the first person to walk over it) Her plague is literally beneath the Brooklyn Bridge inside of BBP. 4th) 58 Joralemon Street (Looks like a brownstone but it’s a hidden MTA emergency exit from the train station) 5th) Plymouth Church Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. preached a sermon on “The American Dream”. This church also became an important station on the Underground Railroad through which slaves from the South were secretly transported to Canada. And Abraham Lincoln also lectured here a couple times. 6th) Michael Kenneth Williams mural. He was a famous actor. Many know him from ‘The Wire’, ‘Boardwalk Empire’, etc... But most importantly he was Coffey’s Brother and Godfather to his kids, so that’s why this particular mural is so important to define. 7) Dick and Jane’s is a Black owned business belonging to Treis and Sapphira Hill. Speaks like a speakeasy from the outside.
