This past month we have been as quiet as we have been busy— in that space of giving shape to research and learning after months of watching and listening, of writing and filming. The collaborative acts to make a book can feel like trying on spectacles. Reading over and over, each time with a different lens. I’ll borrow your glasses; you will borrow mine. To suggest that it is a gift to see what artist Helen Cammock sees, to see what editor and book conjurer Lisa Pearson sees— does not approach the privilege. There’s so much to say about this polyphonous artist’s book, sited in one place (New Orleans) and spinning through time. But I’ll keep you in suspense, for now.
