Kwe-kwe, shé:kon niwidjiwaganag!
I’m so pleased to share our new composition ‘Sweetwater’ which is now officially released! This little vid (click for full view) is my thanks to our creatives who contributed to this song.
This song is a medicine song for me.
Last summer, I started to paddle board with the gorgeous waves of Golden Lake which is on Anishinabe Aki around an hour and a half outside of Ottawa. We were finishing this song then, I relocated our Bird House recording studio to Sho-Shona’s family cabin. Then the news began...with all the little Indigenous bodies being rediscovered. Those feelings of the indescribable atrocities of oppression and genocidal history were overbearing. The spirit of this song gave movement to my feelings as I played this song through a little waterproof speaker letting the waves wash over me for the rest of the summer.
Happy day for all the women water carriers and water protectors; a beautiful World Water Day to you all. You bring sanity to our lives by living and respecting those original teachings.
Here are some shared thoughts about Digging Roots’ Sweetwater’:
Water holds memory, she’s a carrier, she’s a shape-shifter in, on, and through the earth. She burrows through stone and she refashions herself with gravity as she rides through the skies. She's as old as grandfather rocks, she’s an unfurling spirit, and is an ocean of memory through the age of this planet. The composition ‘Sweetwater' is a love song, for the land, for our loves; it's a storied journey of flow that peers into the transforming love making states of water. As waves wash over, may the sweetness of her compassion add ceremony to our consciousness.
