There isn’t much public discourse dedicated to historically Black sororities and fraternities these days, so it’s important for me to share that being a member of this beloved sisterhood is one of the greatest joys of my life. It can get complicated at times, but I’ve been down for 16 years and I don’t see an end in sight.
This past week, I returned home to the city and the women that bestowed upon me the privilege of being a Finer Woman for our biennial conference. It’s been a long time since I gathered with my sorors and a lot has happened in the world since I joined - making last week a time of celebration, but also deep reflection for me. The highlight of my time in Philly was getting to share some brief moments with the women who “made” me - my big sisters @mrsaustinii & @msstephaniearnold - two of the hardest working Zetas I know. I was also happy to see the growth and the strides my sorority has taken to progress forward in service of humankind, to blaze trails for those for whom a pathway is often blocked and to continue to carry the torch of the legacy established by our five founders.
I have great faith and hope in our 26th International President and her newly elected administration! I have come away with a renewed zeal for my sisterhood and it feels really good to see the Zeta light shining so brightly. I thank you for your call to action, Madame Grand (@stacieforzeta) and I am ready to embrace the extraordinary!
