šæ The season of stewed apples for breakfast, freshly picked and peeled with love, to fire up digestion and fill us all with energy for the day ahead.
šæ Choose ripe, organic apples, add a couple of cloves, pinch of cinnamon, cardamom pods, fennel seeds, figs, prunes or raisins and a dollop of yogurt (coyo or otherwise).
šæ Make fresh every day, try not to use leftovers. It also makes home smell amazing every morning!
šæ Stewed apples are a prebiotic food as they contain pectin, a soluble fibre that is fermented by the beneficial bacteria in the intestine. This bacteria uses pectin to generate short-chain-fatty-acids and these are involved in regulating immunity and reducing inflammation. Cooking the apples makes them easier to digest. As apples are rich in soluble fibre and around 85% water they promote elimination and detoxification.
