Happy pub day to @susan.straight’s MECCA, the great Californian novel from one of my favorite writers alive. This is Susan’s ninth (!) novel, and, as a third gen Californian, I can confidently say it’s the most moving, cinematic love letter to this state I’ve ever read, and a devastating story of the communities and people oppressed at the expense of whiteness.
