VITAMIN D3:
Summer is officially here and no better time to chat about this next nutrient need to know!
Vitamin D3 is required for proper development of bones and teeth, supports immune function, and helps strengthen the immune system.
Exclusively breastfed babies should supplement with 400 IU daily, possibly more for those at higher risk for deficiency. Unless mom is supplementing with 2000 IU per day. Formula fed babies usually meet their requirements as formula is enriched with vitamin D3 (can vary based on baby’s intake, always check with your pediatrician).
All babies once weaned completely should be supplemented with a minimum of 400 IU of vitamin D3, very rarely can dietary sources meet these needs sufficiently. Though, I still recommend offering your baby foods rich in vitamin D3.
When supplementing, look for a dropper in an oil carrier because vitamin D3 is fat soluble. Something like EVOO, coconut oil, or MTC is preferred and is the most shelf stable along with offering other health benefits. We love @nordicnaturals and
@maryruthorganics vitamin D3/K2

And of course a dose of safe sun exposure is always the best medicine!🌞
