This one really touched me. It hits different coming from your own family. I come from a very racially blended family because *most* of the Black men in my family do not date women at my color or darker. Even though many would still consider me lighter skinned. — Even in my household as the only Black person, it was always communicated very clearly that Blackness is undesirable. I do remember thinking growing up that it’s sad how many Black men see dating non-melanated women as a sign of progress or achievement. I knew from a very young age that I wanted an unideniably Black family.
