To put this trip into words is genuinely impossible. Having the opportunity to call all 44 of these people my family is the biggest blessing of my life. It was an honor to be able to say we provided the locals with a 3 roofs, two completely built by hand, and a concrete floor for the churches with only a concrete mixer, 5 gallons buckets, scaffolding towers, and 45 dedicated students and leaders is something I will forever say with a smile full of pride. There is something to be said about working for 6 hours in 100 degree weather that creates a bond between people so strong concrete burns are a brush off the shoulder. God hand selected everyone in this group and to no one’s surprise it was better than we could have ever asked for or imagined. To every local, Manolo, Martín, and Gabi your endless need to help every struggling church in Mexico will never go unseen or be taken for granted. Harper, one of my teammates, brought up a quote during small group that says “I once met a man so poor all he had was money.” This stuck with me the entire trip. In every village that had close to nothing there wasn’t a single local who didn’t meet us with a smile and a face of complete gratitude. Every town people, as privileged as we are, would look down on with pity, contained a community so strong attending a church with no roof was never a concern. God was the priority. The women of the church were there at 6am hand crafting tortillas and slicing fruit for us to be served with a delicious lunch day after day while the men of the church showed up at 6am with a smile ready to assist us during construction. Words could never accurately account for an experience like this however the perspective change and mindset shift I received will continue to show how God works within us. We were made for community and when searching in the right places friendships so rich in love will form. These people have forever changed my life.
